Overview

After the disappointment of missing out on the 2022 World Cup, the Czech Republic arrive at a continental and global crossroads — a side rebuilding around a familiar Premier League and Bundesliga spine while blending in fresh domestic talent.

Qualification was hard-fought but the Czechs remain a stubborn, well-drilled unit who reached the Euro 2020 quarter-finals. With Patrik Schick fit and firing, they carry genuine attacking menace, though depth and consistency remain question marks.

This is a team built more on collective grit than individual stardust, hoping organisation and set-piece power can carry them out of Group A.

Culture

Football culture

Football and ice hockey compete for the national heart, but the football pyramid is fiercely tribal, led by the Prague rivalry between Slavia and Sparta. Czech fans value hard work, organisation and a touch of clever craft, and they revere the golden generations of the past.
